The name of this wine – “Granit” – is very appropriate because it is very mineral, with discreet fruit notes and vibrant acidity, revealing this different and unusual dimension of a mountain Alvarinho.
Its acidity and elegance make the mouth water and make this Soalheiro Granit a very gastronomic wine.
Terroir: Granit is made with Alvarinho grapes from a specific selection of small vineyards planted in granitic soil, currently at about 400 meters of altitude in the sub-region of Monção and Melgaço.
The higher the vines, the fruitier side of Alvarinho gives way to notes of acidity and minerality.
The plots are chosen due to the minerality and lower fertility of the soil, leading the roots of the Alvarinho vines to sink deeper into the mountainside to find nutrients.
Vinification: The grapes are hand-picked. After pressing, before fermentation, the must is clarified.
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel at a higher temperature than usual for white wines (22ºC), ensuring that the fruity nature of Alvarinho does not mask the delicate minerality we are looking for in this wine.
Bâtonnage and aging on fine lees improve the wine's structure before it is bottled.
