Pioneer in the creation of Alvarinho wine in Melgaço, and an international reference for wines from this variety, Soalheiro is perfectly integrated into the typical Minho landscape that surrounds it. In the 1970s (1974) his passion for viticulture led João António Cerdeira, with the support of his father, António Esteves Ferreira, to plant the first Alvarinho vineyard and in 1982 to create the first Alvarinho brand in Melgaço and one of the first of Alvarinho in the sub-region of Monção and Melgaço.
Located in Melgaço (the most northern point of Portugal), it is protected by a set of mountains that create the necessary conditions for the best maturation of the Alvarinho grapes. Here, Alvarinho is special, the terrain is protected by a set of mountains that create conditions of rain, temperature and hours of sunshine necessary for the best ripening of the grapes. We hope you also like its vibrant and elegant expression, something we are passionate about...
The Alvarinho grapes used in Soalheiro Clássico come from several small vineyards planted in granitic soil between 100 and 400 meters in altitude and located in a very particular microclimate in the municipality of Melgaço. Melgaço, the northernmost region of Portugal, is protected by a set of mountains that allow a perfect marriage between rainfall, temperature and the number of hours of sunshine necessary for the best maturation of the Alvarinho grapes. This good sun exposure – sunny place – also gave the name to the plot that was the origin of the brand.
A significant area of the vineyards used in Soalheiro Clássico comes from Quinta de Soalheiro, where production concepts that promote the biodiversity of the local fauna and flora are used. It is exclusively from these vineyards that the grapes that will give rise to Soalheiro Terramatter and Soalheiro Nature are born.
