Quintas de Melgaço - Alvarinho Wine Producer

Quintas de Melgaço is a public limited company located in the parish of Alvaredo, municipality of Melgaço, Demarcated Region of Vinhos Verdes, in the Sub-Region of Monção and Melgaço.

The idea of ​​creating the company Quintas de Melgaço came from an emigrant who made his fortune in Brazil, Amadeu Abílio Lopes, who wanted something more for his homeland. He then launched the challenge to some small and medium wine producers to join forces in favor of the potential of wines in the region and the Alvarinho variety.

This project has grown from year to year and currently represents an important force for socio-economic development for Melgaço, projecting the region into the world atlas.

Based on micro producers, this mission is only achieved through the daily commitment and affection that its 530 members, that is, its 530 families, put daily in the fulfillment of their duties.

Amadeu Abílio Lopes offered his shares to the Municipality of Melgaço, which became the main and majority shareholder.

Without ever forgetting its origins, Quintas de Melgaço launched an Alvarinho in honor of its founder, QM Homenagem. Pedro Soares, director of the company, says that “this wine is inspired by the psychological characteristics and life path of the founder of Quintas de Melgaço, Amadeu Abílio Lopes. The experience of tasting the product refers to the history of passion and tradition of this company”.

Quintas de Melgaço has a wide range of wines and sparkling wines, which go far beyond 100% Alvarinho, such as Alvarinho/Chardonnay.

In the wine tourism area, there are several experiences available, such as picnics, wine tastings and traditional products from the region.
